State Championships End at Lincoln

Five weekends of consecutive racing went rapidly but not as fast as many of the sleds we saw race this season. There is no doubt that every year we're seeing racers going to extremes that ten years ago wouldn't of been imaginable. Where will it end? Big horsepower, quick E.T.'s, sleds running in the three digit MPH. We saw it all this season and no doubt the 97-98 drag year will be another fast and rapidly growing technical year for man and machines. The 96-97 grass season will remain in many racers minds for a long time to come.

As the MSRA's season drew to a close the final face off took place at Lincoln on October 20th. Like any other weekend there were many up's and downs to befall us including weather, which was a hindrance at many sites this season. Light rain and snow filtered down for most of the racing time. A repeat of last years event.

Despite the damper, the racers were still thrilling to watch and endured well. All participants knew that this last challenge was important because of the gain for points towards the state titles. It was a nip and tuck season in a good portion of the classes dealing with the points tallying. Machines are running competitively close and winning was difficult for many. It was an extensive day of racing despite the plunging mercury, and all were able to race just as hard if not better because of the cooling temps.

Lisa Smith, the organizer for this event was able to hold the same site for racing which is one of the prettiest areas in the Rockies. Prizes were awarded at the Bootlegger Bar in town with 90% cash payback, sweatshirts, T's, and caps going to prospective winners.

The season has now drawn to a close with lots of reflections on the past season. What will 97-98 bring for all? What will be the next ultimate rush for the racers and what can they improve on to attend even higher neck breaking speeds?
